Over the two films, Ang Hui Bin is guided by the artistic mobius strip of looking at the “created” and the “creator”. As an ode to live puppetry and the ideal Artist – a creator who is emblematic of the creation – both films were shot in single takes in a bid to celebrate perfect imperfections.
In the first film, she reinvents the use of inanimate everyday objects. Here the puppeteer’s hands shape the newly minted puppets and offer glimpses into the movement potential via the manipulation. In doing so, Hui Bin brings to the fore similar techniques used during puppet making while also echoing stylistics from contemporary table-top puppetry. The second film presents the visibility-invisibility of the art and artist as they meld into shadow play. Where does the artwork start and where does the artist end?

Ang Hui Bin
Hui Bin graduated from the National University of Singapore's Theatre Studies Program in 2004 and has been working in theatre as an all-round artist, specializing in puppetry, for more than 15 years.
